Color Guidelines
Do’s & Don’ts
Our guidelines have standards in place for using the many colors under our branding umbrella. This page will point out best practices as well as what to avoid.
Palette Practices
Don’t alter our colors
Avoid using the color picker tools to manually select a color you wish to add into a design or logo.
Do use approved shades and tints
It is possible to achieve clear visual hierarchy with the shades and tints palettes set up for you to use.
Don’t shade or tint Secondary colors
The Secondary colors are stand alone or supporting colors that do not need to be altered.
Do pair with Secondary with Primary
Ōnin’s primary color shades and tints are designed for use with all Secondary and single use colors.
Don’t combine defined brand colors
Brand colors have been carefully selected and should not be altered with any other Ōnin brand color.
Do stay within Primary and accents for each brand
A designer can add other Ōnin brand colors to a design with logo so long as the colors have clear use and do not clutter the composition.
Accessibility
Don’t use low contrasting color palettes
Instead stay within the primary and accent colors for each brand as they should be the dominant theme.
Do use clear contrast
Clear contrast give better visual hierarchy, dimension and readability. Be careful to avoid harmful color combinations such as strobing, flashing, or vibrating colors.
Avoid Color Overload
Create focus not distraction
Color palettes should be limited to 3-4 colors maximum. Some exceptions to this rule include editorial projects with sections highlighted by different colors, some infographics and presentations.
